It breaks the record previously held by the Oppenheimer Blue diamond, which sold for £46million ($57.5 million) at Christie's in Geneva last May. Sotheby's president and CEO Tad Smith said: "It is fitting that the owner of the most prestigious jeweller in Greater China should today break the record for the most valuable item ever sold in Asia as well as the most valuable diamond ever sold at auction - now appropriately named the CTF Pink."Sotheby's has been honoured and thrilled to serve this very discerning client for many years."Sotheby’s worldwide jewellery division chairman David Bennett added: “I am delighted that this magnificently beautiful diamond has been rightfully crowned the most valuable gemstone ever sold at auction. “The price has more than doubled the record for a fancy vivid pink diamond that we set just last year in Geneva.” The sale comes three years after the Pink Star was sold at another Sotheby's auction in Geneva in a deal that later fell apart. Record mondial de preţ pentru o nestemată vândută la o licitaţie. Un diamant foarte rar, cunoscut sub numele ”Pink Star”, a fost vândut în Hong Kong cu 71,2 milioane de dolari.

”Pink Star” este cel mai mare diamant şlefuit din clasa lui care a fost scos la licitaţie. Acest diamant roz în formă ovală, ce are 59,6 de carate, a fost cumpărat după o licitaţie ce a durat doar cinci minute, a precizat casa Sotheby’s, organizatoarea licitaţiei, scrie news.ro.

Licitaţia pentru ”Pink Star” a început de la preţul de 56 de milioane de dolari. Piatra prețioasă a fost descoperită într-o mină a companiei De Beers în 1999 în Botswana, şi şlefuită doi ani mai târziu.

Potrivit casei Sotheby’s, cumpărătorul este un renumit lanţ de magazine de bijuterii din Hong Kong – Chow Tai Fook Jewellery.

Precedentul record mondial de preţ a fost deţinut până marţi, 4 aprilie, de Oppenheimer Blue, care a fost vândut în mai 2016 cu 50,6 de milioane de dolari.
